Cristiano Ronaldo: Bali's Footprint

Just recently the football star visited the island of Bali in conjunction with an event hosted by Indonesian Ministry of Forestry in collaboration with Artha Graha Foundation. Cristiano Ronaldo whom known as CR7 was planting mangroves together with the President of Republic of Indonesia. Cristiano Ronaldo's short visit to Bali indeed limited with tight agendas and thus were not fully available to entertain or meet his fans and spectators. Cristiano Ronaldo's arrival to Bali however has echoed over the world and it sent a signal that Indonesia and Bali's especcially was safe for visitors and tourists. Besides, his visit of course sent a global message in regards to the importance of Mangrove to our planet, ecosystem and its people surrounding areas.

The workshop on Building Hi Energy was incorporated with game & exercise that stimulate audience thinking and conceptual on team performance. It was clear for everyone that working together may not fully performing as team yet. Thus real teamwork concept and best practices were introduced.

On the Full Cycle of Performance Management module covers the reality and fact that Performance Appraisal is just minor part of Performance Management. Thus performing Performance Appraisal is not yet classified as Performance Management System.

Referring to a journal on “Realities of Management Promotion” written by Marian N. Ruderman & Patricia J. Ohlott, there are 36 reasons for promotion which categorized into 5; Preparation, Attitudes, People Skills, Personal Attributes and Context. Four of these categories relate to individual achievements, characteristics or ability.

The reasons cited for promotion most often falls into the category of preparation; well prepared in terms of Track Records (61%) and Technical Skills (50%). Reason that can be categorized as people skills includes; Basic Interpersonal & Communication Skills (45%), Ability to Build Team (47%). Other reasons can be put into category of personal attributes; The potential for growth as an executives (59%) and Intelligence (45%).

Learning from above common realities of management promotional reasons, no wonder there are many managers perform poorly after being promoted despite of their track records and technical skills, they lack of people skills, personal attributes and job context.

It is obvious therefore, individuals who are promoted needed to continuously develop those four categories of managerial & leadership attributes in order to be successful upon promotion - performing the required performance; managing and leading people. They need managerial & leadership development program that are properly structured and designed for continuous growth and learning process.

Teamwork Redefined

Over the course of the decade we all have heard, said and use the terminology of teamwork. However, I have seen an increasing number of misinterpretations of this term by many people. There are number of people that would interpret and even believe that teamwork refer to working together on one particular task to get it done, while others would refer team work to assigning each member of the team a specific task that correlate with the team’s main task, and when each member complete their specific task in time, the team successfully complete the main task.
